Relight a photo and separate your subject from the background in just a few clicks, using AI-powered masking in ON1 Photo RAW 2026.
In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to use Local Adjustments to create independent Subject and Background masks, so you can brighten your subject, deepen contrast in the background, and build real depth into a flat photo. We’ll also add Dynamic Contrast to bring out fine detail and texture, then finish with a Photo Filter using the Skylight style to make the relit scene feel natural. Every adjustment is non-destructive, so you can always go back and fine-tune the strength, color, or tone later.
These practice files require ON1 Photo RAW 2026.4 or later. Already own it? Update free via the app by going to Help > Check for Updates, or from your Products & Subscriptions page. New to ON1? Try it free for 30 days.

Well presented tutorial.
That looks really impressive, especially the fine masked detail of the fur.
Liked the addition of the Photo Filter too, I’m sure can use this combination for my wildlife & macro images of live insects / bugs where you have time to separate the subject from background in camera.
Must try it shortly.
Thanks ON1
