August was a month packed with exciting learning experiences! We dove into pet portraits, exploring techniques to capture the perfect shot of our furry friends. We also mastered commonly used blend modes, adding depth and creativity to our edits. From learning how to enhance details in our images to capturing stunning panoramas, August provided us with the tools to elevate our photography and editing skills. It was a month of growth, and the highlights are definitely worth revisiting!

How to Enhance Details: Learn how to enhance detail and texture in your photos using ON1 Photo RAW. The video covers various methods, including the structure slider in the Develop tab for global adjustments, and the Dynamic Contrast filter in the Effects tab for more targeted enhancements. You’ll also explore additional filters like Bleach Bypass and HDR Look, and how to use local adjustments for precise control. Whether you want to make your photos pop or add subtle texture, this video provides the necessary tools and techniques. Watch the tutorial here.

Commonly Used Blend Modes – Part 1: Dive into three commonly used Blend Modes in ON1 Photo RAW: Multiply, Screen, and Luminosity. The Multiply Blend Mode is perfect for darkening images and removing white backgrounds from layers, like isolating subjects such as birds. The Screen Blend Mode does the opposite, brightening images and creating effects like double exposure by blending multiple layers. Finally, the Luminosity Blend Mode allows for tonal adjustments without altering the image’s colors, making it ideal for maintaining color integrity while enhancing contrast and midtones. Style Talk – In-Camera Styles: We’re exploring the creative possibilities of in-camera styles. Instead of focusing on a specific photo genre, we’ll discuss how to use various in-camera settings to modify the look of your images directly from the camera, without needing to dive into post-processing. By shooting in both RAW and JPEG, you can maintain the flexibility of RAW files while enjoying the immediate results of styled JPEGs. We’ll cover different styles available on various DSLR cameras, such as landscape, vivid, portrait, and black and white, and delve into more specialized effects like retro, monochromatic, and film simulations. This is a great way to create unique images straight from your camera and easily share them on social media. Check out the in-camera styles here.

Style Talk – Pet Portraits: In this episode, we’ll explore how to capture stunning portraits of your pets with simple, effective techniques. You don’t need fancy gear; even your mobile device can produce amazing pet photos, thanks to features like portrait mode. For those using DSLR cameras, I’ll recommend lenses with lower apertures to achieve a beautiful shallow depth of field, helping your pet stand out from the background. Key tips include getting down to your pet’s eye level for more engaging shots and focusing on their eyes to ensure they’re sharp and captivating. Patience is essential, as pets can be unpredictable, but with these techniques, you’ll be able to capture the best moments of your furry friends. Watch the tutorial here.
