Red Boots
Taken back on 22 April 2008 using my Pentax K10D with the 55-200 kit lens. I came across these boots sitting on a large cast rubbish bin in Ferring beach carpark West Sussex.
I originally processed the photo for my internet site using Photoshop CS5.5, but having been converted to ON1 and using it for the last few years, I re-processed it in ON1 PHOTO RAW 2023. With the advent of 2026-4 and the 21 year birthday competition, I’ve reprocessed it in 2026-4 tweaking a few settings.
It’s one of my all-time favourite photographs. I hope you like it!
Post processing notes:
I replaced a dull grass background with a on of my sky photos taken from the same location at the same time of day. I enhanced the subject and foreground colours taking care to keep all the light reflections, I added a sunshine filter coming in from the right using a gradient mask and a brush mask to add more shadow to the base of the bin. I also added a big softy vignette to subtly draw the eye to the boots, then used a LUT for the first time: I chose the Comfort LUT and dropped its opacity to 29%. My aim was to make the photo remain as natural as possible, but with "pop".Exif information:
