Grizzly Rising — Katmai National Park

This male grizzly spent all afternoon diving for dead salmon in a tidal river near Deadman’s Cove in Katmai National Park. I snapped this just as he was at the peak of his rise from the water (he came up empty-mouthed on this unsuccessful dive). I liked the water dripping from his fur and the calm look in his eyes. And the light and the water’s color made for a nice dreamy background to the powerful bear.
