Eclipse 2024

Eclipse 2024

I took a series of photos in my backyard observatory (my patio) of the eclipse in April of 2024 with the idea that I would layer the progression of images to provide a complete record to the total eclipse. My camera was set up on a tripod and I used a remote shutter release to capture a 3 bracket exposure sequence at predetermined intervals throughout the event. The final composite image provides a nice reflection of the eclipse that day. All the images were captured with my Nikon D600 using a Nikkor AF-S 24-70 set at 27 mm.

Editing notesI used on1 Photo Raw to edit the individual layers one at a time as they were added into the base image. The base image used was the total eclipse and that exposure provided the sky and foreground as well. I used the same processing settings on each partial eclipse layer and made minor adjustments as needed to make them match. The image is composed of 23 layers and was challenging for my computer to process the large amount of data by the time all the layers were added.
