In Another World
This is a composite photo. The “planet” in the foreground is a backside view of an antique car headlamp that I found in a junkyard. I was initially drawn to the patterns of the rust and peeling paint. The original background was very busy, so I first tried just blurring and darkening the background. Then inspiration hit and I added a layer using a photo of the night sky that I took several years ago when Comet Neowise was visible. This substitution transformed the image into one that appealed to me as a geologist – an unknown planet with visible continents, floating in a different universe.
