Hollow Decay – Ontario Farm

I was just an enthusiastic (and somewhat sporadic) amateur photographer who didn’t have my camera with me when I got lost on the back roads of Grey County, Ontario on 15th March 2025.
But then I happened upon this dilapidated farmhouse that stood so majestically proud against the elements and was struck by its beauty and the drama it must have witnessed. So I stopped and took this pic with my iPhone 11 (4.25mm f1/8). Although the sky was quite plain and grey I could actually visualise the edits as I took the picture. It’s not my best pic but it’s one I love because of how I came upon it and how with a few basic edits it was transformed into mysterious beauty – in the eye of the beholder of course!

Editing notesI brought up the exposure a little but had to reduce the highlights due to the snow in the foreground. The shadows needed to come a bit as well to bring out some of the darker details. The main change was to replace the sky to give a sort of mystical aura (Night Sky 2; Model A). Then I upped the exposure on the flora a bit using a local Brilliance AI and played around with Structure and Colour a little until I found it pleasing. Finally I added a HDR filter to the house itself to make it stand proud on the landscape.
