Glore Lily
On June 13, 2026, my sister and I walked out of the Glore Psychiatric Hospital Museum in St. Joseph, MO, carrying the weight of everything we had just seen. The history inside those walls is brutal, intimate, and impossible to shake off quickly. Just outside, near the parking area, this lily was growing — bright, open, and impossibly cheerful against the heaviness we felt. It became an unexpected mental palette cleanser, a small act of kindness from the world after seeing the real remnants of so much suffering. It served as a reminder that sometimes, in places of darkness, something more gentle and bright can still bloom. Photo Taken By: Yolande Nichols
