Wow, Colby and I had a tough job choosing the winners for this month’s Storytelling Photo Challenge. What a great bunch of submissions. Seriously! In this video Colby and I choose the cash prize winners. Huge congratulations to James and Kathy. We also highlight some images from the gallery that we agreed deserved attention and/or provided teachable moments to discuss. If you haven’t checked out this gallery, then you really should.
EACH MEMBER’S CRITIQUE IS POSTED BELOW BY GALLERY PAGE AND THEN BY PLUS MEMBER NAME. In the video above Colby and I highlight some images that deserved a shoutout as well as some that provide solid teachable moments. You guys did a fabulous job with these images. I swear the critique gallery gets stronger each month. It’s a pleasure to see the world through your lenses.
I wanted to conclude this visual storytelling series with a deep dive into my post processing workflow. In this video, you will see exactly how I process three different photos from start to finish to emphasize the story.
For those new to Plus, each month Plus members have the opportunity to submit a photo for critique. Every photo submitted gets critiqued by one of the ON1 coaches. It’s great perk for our Plus members! Critiques are a great learning exercise and way to continuously improve your photography. The coaches give their professional constructive critique in a positive manner.
It is important that we enjoy as much photography around the office as we can even if that means pretending to be excited about that special time of year again. You know, the (dreaded) company headshot day. Just mentioning the event would make you think everyone was taking a trip to the dentist and getting a couple teeth pulled. I’ll admit when you are used to being behind the camera (or computer for that matter) having to be the center of attention is not always high on everyone’s list. As the photographer, it is my job to make everyone feel comfortable and at ease. I assured the team that I would make this day as pain free, quick and full of laughter as possible. With me behind the camera, entertainment is a given.
I’m very happy to return to ON1 Inspiration. My sincere thanks to the team at ON1 for inviting me back to share another photo with you. As I write this, I am “armchair traveling,” browsing through photos of past travels to Asia. It has been more than 10 years since I’ve visited Asia. I am excited to return to this area of the world in the summer.
We are super excited to be partnering with Rocky Nook for our Spring into Summer Event. If you aren’t familiar with Rocky Nook, they are a publishing business with a focus on digital photography and much more. The books and eBooks they offer make them a tremendous resource for everyone.

ON1 Effects ships with many amazing textures and borders, but you can also create your own and easily import them. I’ll show you how to import both textures and borders and use them to create a vintage poster effect.
