In 2016 on a visit to Fort Ticonderoga in upstate New York I happened upon this actual shoemaker who was a volunteer at the Fort. While most of the other demonstrations were typical, this one caught my eye as truly typical of the time. The shop was squirreled away in a ;over corner of the fort and really caught my eye as to what it must have been like.

Post processing notes:

Photo was taken with Nikon D5300 and shot as follows: 1/6 sec, F3.5, ISO 100. The camera was handheld, no tripod or monopod. Photo was shot in color and using On1 Raw 2026 was converted to black and white, Sharpened a bit, applied a little haze reduction and using Generative AI Erase I removed a Fire Extinguisher that was located on the wall behind the Shoemaker.
