Crossing Guards
This was taken in the Ngorongoro Crater in Kenya in 2021. We were driving down this road mid-morning on our first day of safari and stopped short of these two zebras who were determined to hold their ground. I knew I had something special when I pressed the shutter button and I could not wait to get home to edit it. I really love how the rain puddles frame the subject.
Post processing notes:
The photo was originally edited in Photo Raw 2021 but I put some finishing touches on it in v2026 before submitting. I made minor adjustments to the exposure using Curves, added Dynamic Contrast and Sharpening, brought out the grass and soil color using Color Mixer. Then, I masked the zebras and brightened the highlights and darkened the blacks in their coats. Finally, a bit of a vignette to further focus attention on the subject.Exif information:
