Charleston Lady
This is an image of a sweetgrass basket maker shot in Charleston SC. When I shot this image they weren’t as popular as they are now and the prices of their works have skyrocketed. The basket makers are descended from the Gullah people in Africa. They are also called Gechee. My wife and I were headed for the Boon plantation on Route 17, saw this beautiful lady sitting in a little shed on the side of the road. We stopped to look, bought a basket and asked if we could take a picture and that was it. It sat in file on my computer for several years because I hadn’t tried any editing yet.
