wasp attacking a bee
I took the picture sometime in september 2019 when I was out shooting with my 7D Classic. I wasn’t really prepared for macro shooting since I “only” had the EF-S 55-250mm lens on it, but when I noticed a wasp crawling up on a bee I suspected what was going to happen in a moment. And I was right. The wasp was sneaking up on the bee while it was feeding on the flower… and then the wasp attacked. Viciously. Notice the small thing on the left? That’s one of the bee’s legs. Poor thing, but who am I to deny a wasp its dinner? I sure prefer for wasps to only hunt critters like flies, but it still only did what is natural for a wasp to do.
Post processing notes:
I had to re-edit the photo with On1 PhotoRaw 2025 as I had been using "another" photo editing software back then. Anyway, first I cropped it quite a bit as I had not been using a dedicated macro lens. Then I used lens correction and de-noised and sharpened the result. After that I played with the settings adding a bit of contrast (+21), highlights (+5) and reduced the midtones (-28) and shadows (-7). Also, I added a bit of structure (+6) and set the whitebalancing to "daylight". Also, I added a colour enhancer (foilage) in effects.Exif information:
