Watchful Above the River

This bald eagle was photographed along the Mississippi River, perched high on a weathered branch with that intense, unmistakable look eagles have when they are fully aware of everything around them. What I’m most proud of in this image is the detail in the feathers and the eye, and the way the bird feels powerful without needing any motion or dramatic action.

Post processing notes:

Edited in ON1 to bring out the layered feather texture, deepen the contrast in the body, and sharpen the eye and beak so the eagle remains the clear focus. The background was kept soft and muted, with warm tonal adjustments used to give the image a more natural, finished feel.
