Cathedral Cove, BC
In 2013, while on holidays on Vancouver Island, we visited Cathedral Grove (or MacMillan Provincial Park), a renowned, easily accessible old-growth forest located on central Vancouver Island, BC. Situated along Highway 4 between Parksville and Port Alberni, it protects giant 800-year-old Douglas firs and western red cedar.
Post processing notes:
This is an old photograph from 2013 that I've processed a few times. This last edition was processed with Photo Raw 2026. No cropping necessary. As original picture was kind of backlit and overexposed, I have used a linear profile and I had to reduce exposure, increase midtones and shadows and apply negative haze to get that special contrast it confers to the photo. Then in Effects I added Dynamic contrast with a depth mask to target main trunks and branches, a glow filter (charge more) with luminosity mask, a color grading filter and a vignette. Last touch: dodge and burn in local adj. tabExif information:
