A Canyon Tree in Winter
This photo was taken in Zion National Park. It had snowed that day and my wife and I went up into the cliffs to get a few shots of the snow on the red rocks. The photo was taken at 9:43 AM on February 21, 2026. I use a NICON D7500 with the ISO at 360, f/5 and shutter speed at 1/500. I used a focal length of 102mm on a 300mm zone lens. This was taken as a JPG. The shadows, the morning sun, the snow and red rocks were quite amazing. It was just a joy to be in the mountains when all this happens. A wonderful experience.
Post processing notes:
I used the Lens Correction feature first. Then adjusted the exposure, midtones, whites, and blacks. In the structure section of Tone and Color, I dropped the Haze down to give it a little zip. I then used the strong Vignette to darken the edges to try and force the eyes to the tree just off center in the photo. I then had to reduce the size down to make it an acceptable size for this submission. The actual size is 12.9 MB with a 3712 x 5568 pixel size.Exif information:
