In this second video with Don Komarechka as a guest coach for ON1 Plus, we dive into the creative potential of macro photography with an assortment of RAW images and the story that created them, and how to push further in post-processing.

A few thoughts to consider:
– There is often no solid frame of reference for up or down (no horizon line). Feel free to compose without this constraint to further enhance the lines and shapes in an image
– Water droplets act like lenses – the more spherical they are the more lens-like they become. Place a flower in behind and boom! Magic.
– Many macro images are staged to some degree. Feel free to take control of your compositions and construct something surreal that bends reality. The macro world is already such an unknown construct from a human perspective.
– Old lenses can have fun optical effects. Soap-bubble bokeh from an old trioplan or primoplan lens is a beautiful visual element, and reversing the from lens from an old MIR-1B soviet-era lens can push light into some unexpected directions.
– Experiment, always ask yourself “what if”, and enjoy the creative process.
