Pasture Symbiotes
Shot in a rural part of Lee County, Texas. These cattle egrets are fascinating to watch, following their cattle companions ever so closely to hunt the insects uncovered by their grazing activity. Over time, I’ve learned which out-of-the-way side roads near my hometown give me the best low-angle vantages from which to capture them.

Edited exclusively in ON1 Photo RAW 2026.4, taking advantage of NoNoise AI and Resize AI to overcome some of the limitations of my bridge camera in shooting this. Went for a painterly treatment with local adjustments to reshape the light and color balance, dynamic contrast to bring up finer details, a LUT and color grading filters to dial things in, and a burned paper texture overlay for stylistic finish.Exif information:
