We recently sat down with Mike Long, a hard working and amazing portrait artist based in Portland, Oregon. Mike is well known for Portland Pin-Ups, the west coast’s premier pin-up studio. Mike has been both a photographer and retoucher for over 20 years and along the way he has captured all styles of portrait from babies to weddings. A regular speaker at the annual WPPI conference in Las Vegas, Mike has also taken his teaching across the USA touring with Sandy Puc, and has also produced workshops in Canada and Australia. We recently chatted with Mike and are excited to seeing him bring his workflow to ON1 customers and also show how he uses ON1. Look for new videos in the coming months and check out this new awesome preset pack for Effects.
UPDATE: 3.31.2017 – We will email owners the news about the Version 2017.1 release on Monday. We will update you here on the blog as soon as it is available for download also. You may see the auto update pop up in the app between now and Monday, so if you do get it go ahead and download it to use 2017.1. In any case, you will get email notification and download links here on Monday. Hopefully, all that makes sense. Have a great weekend!
I have had such a great time as your guest coach this month. ON1 Plus is such a vibrant community. Open & positive dialog, great questions, and wonderful advice from all corners of the community. It is refreshing to be part of a place filled with photographers that want to improve their photography and are so willing to share their knowledge with others. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of it.
I want to leave you with a quote:
Your March Loyalty Rewards are now available for download!
We cap our mini portrait workflow series with part 8 – Using Presets. I go through some of the built-in presets in ON1 Photo 2017 which are great for using on portraits. Presets are the perfect starting point for styling and making amazing looking portrait shots.
Wow you guys really knocked it out of the park on this challenge. Scott and I did not have an easy time choosing winners from all of these awesome entrants. The whole gallery was filled with great work throughout. Thanks so much to everyone who participated and huge congrats to our winners.
Thanks to everyone that attended the Live Q&A session yesterday. You all brought great questions. If you couldn’t attend, here’s the recorded session. We covered a lot of different topics.
For those who are new to Plus, each month all Plus members have the opportunity to submit a photo for critique. Every single photo submitted gets critiqued by one of the coaches. It’s just another perk of being a Plus member. Photo critiques are a great learning exercise and way to improve your photography. The coaches give their professional constructive critique in a positive manner.
We’ve reached part 7 where we work with portrait photos that include multiple faces which require different skin retouching settings.
In Part II, in For the Love of Film blog series, we bring you into the studio. I show our set up for creating new Color Film presets for Effects (coming in ON1 Photo 2017.1). If you missed Part I, you can find it here.
Once we raided Jonny’s stash of frozen-in-time film, along with the very few color negative and transparency films we could still get our hands on, it was finally time to go shoot.
