While walking the woods on Kelleys Island, Ohio, (September 27, 2009) we came across this pair of Giant Black Ichneumonid Wasps. The black female checking for woodwasp larvae to parasitize; later shots in this series show her depositing eggs .
I love the natural vignetting created by the depth of field chosen by the camera.
Post processing notes:
The quality of the image in camera meant I only needed to minimal crop, adjust whites and blacks, and finally sharpen to make the image crisp. Canon EOS 5D with Canon EF 300mm f/4 IS and 1.4 ext - this gave me settings of ISO 800, 1/320 at f/6.3 in natural light Photographed as Canon .cr2 raw and developed by me, Shane Roberts using ON1 RAW 2026.4Exif information:
