The Habitat in Reflection
I was ambling along the track, late summer 2023, up ahead there was movement, it was a numbat. An endangered marsupial only found in a few small patches of bushland in Western Australia. Only around a thousand numbats remain, this is like stumbling upon a unicorn! I start shooting from the car window, the numbat far ahead on the trail. I switched my camera into crop mode, increasing the reach of my lens by 1.5x.
I rolled out of the car onto the track and began commando crawling towards the numbat. Fearless, the numbat approached me, coming closer and closer! I couldn’t believe my eyes and just kept shooting. The numbat came within my minimum focus distance before scampering off into the bush.
This image was the result, I could see everything about the numbat’s environment in the reflection in the eye! What detail! I was amazed… then it dawned on me, I’d had my camera in crop mode the whole time and my glorious 45MP camera had only captured just 4000×6000 pixels.
I knew I wanted this image 2x1m in my gallery, it just had to happen! This is where Perfect Resize saved my bacon!
Post processing notes:
The image was processed as usual in Lightroom with the added step on Enhance>Supersize which did a good job but didn't get me to the size I wanted. I took the TIFF file into Perfect Resize where it successfully enlarged to a flawless 2x1m print which sits proudly in pride of place in my gallery. The image has otherwise had minimal post processing, just basic levels.Exif information:
