Orca Pod Hunting at Twilight
Observed this transient Orca Pod feeding while sightseeing on a Whale Watch in Vancouver on the 9th September 2024. The photo is a composite of photos taken within a few minutes apart, at dusk. Look carefully at the center Orca Spying, it has a fish in its mouth! This was my first time viewing Orcas in the wild.
Post processing notes:
The photo was constructed using layers. The canvas was an Orca seascape. Three additional Orca photos were added as masked layers, each taken at approximately the same distance to shoreline with a telephoto Lens, as the Orca's were a distance from the boat. The layers were merged into a stamp layer that was post processed using Dynamic Contrast, Match Color with a depth Mask and a LUTs using a Luminosity Mask. A Tonal Contrast was applied to the front Orca's using Super Select AI. A curve filter was added to remove any saturated black. Minor Develop Tone settings were then applied to enhance the depth and the original sky. The lighting was kept as shot.Exif information:
