Like a baby
Hi. I live near Edinburgh, in Scotland, and was wandering through the city’s Princes Street Gardens one morning in June 2023 when I came across this homeless man, fast asleep on one of the Gardens’ many park benches. I had my Fujifilm X-S10 + 16mm/f2.8 prime lens with me and took the opportunity to record the plight of this man and his situation, if only to highlight the fact that Scotland’s capital city – like many cities across the world – has more than its share of homeless people, many of whom do not always manage to catch a comfortable bed for the night.
As for EXIF, the image was shot in raw and was taken at ISO 320, using a shutter speed of 1/100 sec and an aperture of f5.6.
Post processing notes:
I opened the raw file in ON1 PhotoRAW 2025, cropped it to my preferred size then applied a Bleach Bypass effect, adjusting for Opacity and other small details. Once I was happy with these small changes I exported the image as an 8-bit TIF file with a ProPhoto RGB profile into Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 for final processing (where I applied an additional crop and, using the program's various tools, darkened the highlights slightly, adjusted the lighting overall, then applied a small amount of sharpening to the face. finally, I reduced the file size to just over 9Mb as per contest rules. I am still getting to grips with ON1's powerful editing tools so am not fully familiar with everything the program can do. I hope the fact that I also used another program to add the final touches does not disqualify me, but if so, I live and learn!Exif information:
