Kilchurn Castle
Taken on 31st May 2013 and originally processed ni the Perfect Photo Suite. It earned second slot in my camera club B+W competition that year. This version is re-processed in PR2025 and I believe is a better image than the original. It was taken with a sony Alpha 77 body and Sony 16-50 f2.8 lens. The image settings were 1/250 at f16 and ISO 200 with -0.5 underexposure, the latter making controlling highlights easier.
The original image gained second place besause the judge thought the quartz bolder in the foregound was too bright. The latest PR 2025 makes contrlling such things very easy,
Post processing notes:
Phaoto Raw 2025.2 with brilliance AI and Noise and Sharpening applied, especially as it was an older camera. Then Tone and Colour adjustments to help put contrast into the image, this being the starting point for a B+W conversion. Local adjustments were made to the sky, the castle and the foregound quartz rock. Then I moved on to Effects, starting with a Black and White filter. I had to make sure that this stayed at the top of the stack to gaing the effects I was after! The rock and the castle were then given a boost with Dynamic Contrast. Two Colour Adjustments were made using the Desert and Fall presets and adjustments to these. The Desert had the most effect, in particular by darkening the sky. Two Sunshine filters were used to add a light "streak" to the castle and rock.Exif information:
