He Paints for Those Dearly Departed
On one of my trips to Gettysburg National Battleground, I sat along with about twenty other photographers and numerous other visitors at Little Round Top, waiting for the sun to set. After waiting about 45 minutes a cloud bank came in which obscured the sun. At this point most of the visitors and all but one other photographer and me remained. Another half hour or so, the sun came back. We watched at the sky was transformed. I said to my fellow photographer, “Only God could paint such a beautiful sky.” He responded simply, “Amen.” At that very moment the title for this scene came into my mind. Almost 2,000 soldiers of the Union and Confederate troops were killed, wounded or listed as missing after the battle. I was thankful that I was patient that day.
