Grebe on Golden Pond
The winter’s rains left perfect conditions on one of our local lakes for the grebes. I had been following the plethora of grebes, watching the nesting, seeing some eggs, waiting for the babies. (Still haven’t seen a chick.) I caught this western grebe about 7:30 AM on May 14, 2025. The early light turned the lake golden and allowed the handsome grebe to stand out.
Post processing notes:
I shot this on my Z-8 with the 180-600 mm lens and 2X converter (1200 mm). In ON1 I started with brilliance AI. (I don't often use it. I find it a bit garish, but in this case it brought the original, early morning, shot to life and emphasized the gold.) No noise cleared up any noise. I finished up with 31% dynamic contrast on the bird and a vignette that I've created that's a little more natural than big softy.Exif information:
