Dickson Falls
Although not very tall, Dickson Falls in Fundy National Park (New Brunswick, Canada) is one of the most beautiful waterfalls I have seen. I visited this site in the summer of 2023 on what was, at first, a rainy day. By the time I made my way to this waterfall, the sun came out and gave some wonderful illumination to parts of the gorge. From a photography point of view, I might have preferred that the clouds provide some natural light filtering, but you take what you get. At least I was drying out after a lengthy morning hike to a separate waterfall…
Post processing notes:
I used ON1 to perform all of the edits to this photograph. There were some serious contrasts in various areas of the picture frame, and I needed to reduce brightness in some areas and brighten some of the shadowed areas, which included much of the major drop portion of the waterfall. A vignette effect also helped reduce some of the sun's glare at the upper edges. There was significant editing effort to make this photo replicate what I saw with my eyes - or at least what I remember that I saw, or the feeling that it gave me. Unlike eyes, a camera can't adjust its aperture on the fly as you take in different parts of the scene. Sometimes we need to make some edits to reflect what we saw - or interpret what we saw.Exif information:
