ON1 Photo (RAW) 2017.1 – Now Available

Version 2017.1 (or build 11.1.0.3608 ) is available for immediate download. This release has some very exciting new features, upgrades in performance, and fixes several issues reported by ON1 customers. We also want to let you know some of the new features and updates we outlined during the initial release (in December) are taking longer to integrate than we originally anticipated. We will have an updated timeline for the remaining features very soon and will post it here on the blog. Your feedback has been highly valuable in helping us prioritize what each update includes. We still plan on bringing you new features and updates to ON1 Photo 2017 free of charge.

2017.1 Updates (Download the update and read the full release notes here):

  • NEW COLOR FILM PRESETS — These accurately reproduce the look of 30 current and classic color slide and negative films
  • Faster, more accurate retouching and refine results — When you use the Perfect Eraser, Retouch Brush or Refine Brush we store and replay the results in a much faster way. This makes exporting faster, reloading faster and makes the previews in Browse consistent
  • WINDOWS HIGH DPI SUPPORT — We have added support for greater than 100% display scaling. ON1 Photo now looks much better on Windows tablets and 4K displays
  • NEW EDITED PHOTO BADGES — Now photos in edited in ON1 Photo 2017 are identified with a badge in Browse. Also the reset items in the Settings menu are context-sensitive so you can see what kind of edits you have added to a photo. Last but not least, when you return to Develop or Effects after editing, the panes and filters will be rolled-up so you have a quick list of what work you performed on a photo
  • NEW WORKSPACES & STARTING-POINT PRESETS — For Develop, we have added two new categories of presets to help you configure the correct panes for different genres of photos.
  • REDUCED VRAM USAGE — We have dramatically reduced the amount of VRAM needed. This means older video cards will work better and you can open larger panorama photos now
  • FASTER BROWSE — We have made a ton of improvements to performance in Browse. Scrolling is now smoother, Detail and Filmstrip view are faster, rolling down sub-folders is faster and we made improvements to performance for slow drives like NAS devices
  • NEW CAMERA UPDATES — Added support for: Canon PowerShot G9X Mark II, Fuji X-A3, Fuji X-T20, Fuji X100F, Panasonic DMC FZ80, Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ82, Panasonic LUMIX DMC GH5, Panasonic LUMIX DMC LC1, Panasonic Lumix GX850, Pentax K-P, FujiFilm GFX 50S, Sony A99 MKII, Nikon B700 (preliminary), Autel Cameras.
  • NEW SKY TEXTURES — We’ve added a bunch of new skies to the backgrounds and textures libraries for replacing skies or simulating multiple-exposures
  • Added support for HDR and Panorama DNG
  • Additional bug fixes and performance upgrades

We also have several new and key features coming as free updates you can look forward to for ON1 Photo RAW 2017. These include powerful new features like lens correction, Kelvin temperature, and compare mode to name just a few. The next update will be available in the mid-May/June time frame. As we get closer to delivering the release, we will work on keying you in on an availability date. We have every intention of following through to bring better performance, quality and new key features for ON1 Photo 2017 via free updates. You can check out what we’ve done so far here.

Just downloaded works much better, but where are the film presets and the sky textures located at?
thanks keep up the good work;)

The film presets are in the Color Film category once the app is loaded. The new sky textures can be found in the Textures filter in Effects. Make sure to change the texture category to skies and then you can see all the new textures.

Ok thanks found the sky textures but I don’t see color film anywhere all I see is color enhancer.

Unless I’m missing something with the latest update, we still can’t delete Preset categories. I know it’s not a major issue, but it’s a real irritant for me. I like trying new presets, but when I find out they don’t fit my style, all they do is clutter up my work flow. Please, please include this in a future update.

Hello Clyde, This feature update will be available in the .2 release. So it is something we are working on and will be available soon.

I also noticed that your shadow clipping isn’t working right it won’t light up blue.

      Hey Chris,
I went and tested this on several machines here in the office and it appears to work as it should. If you applied any preset (lets say a matte preset), there is a chance that the blue wouldn’t show because there would then be no true black point. If this is not the case, please file a ticket with support and we can try and see what’s going on. Thanks for commenting!

I narrowed down my problem to ORF files from the PEN-F camera. Photo RAW 2017.1 works fine with ORF files from the E-M1 and E-M5. Funny, Photo RAW 2017 processed PEN-F ORF files until this release. I checked your list of supported cameras, and the PEN-F is not on it.
Since I downsized to the PEN-F, I guess I’ll have to wait until the PEN-F is supported.
    Thanks.

    1. Almost anything I try to do in Layers with 2 or more photo layers just completely crashes the prog.
    2. Release notes say: Added support for HDR and Panorama DNG
    – how precisely – cannot find anything as a menu pick or anything in Help – What am I missing?

    Fantastic!
No more worms when I adjust sharpening in X-trans fuji RAWs.
    I’m very happy!
    Well done!

    Hi
I downloaded the new version of Photo Raw and got an error message during the installation.
‘error code 214702489’ – ‘requires onOne Pallette’.
After which my copy of Photo Raw (and all of the presets that I have created and purchased) dissapeared.
Any suggestions as to what I should do next?
    Best wishes David Price.
ps I am using Windows 10 on an AMD lap top.

    Hi Patrick
Thanks, I assume that they have my email address. Please note that it is currently 20.48 over here. So, I might not see any of their messages until tomorrow morning.
    Best wishes

      Hi Patrick
Spotted the advice concerning the error code, rebooted and the next install appears to have gone well.
I back up my textures and presets, if they haven’t transfered over, I should be able to recover and re-install them.
      Best wishes, David Price.

I use dual 2560×1440 monitors. With the new iteration the side panels, icons and text have become quite large with a fairly small image left, is it just me?
No panic as it is a trial version (still using 10.5 with no problem).

Like the update. Could you make the panels more scaleable?
