ON1 Short Clip — Photo 10.5 vs. Photo RAW

Let’s take a look at a comparison of the processing speed between ON1 Photo 10.5 and the new ON1 Photo RAW – with its new fast module switching and nondestructive workflow.  You’ll notice how in ON1 Photo RAW it only took us about 43 seconds – in ON Photo 10.5 it takes twice as long. Everything is faster in ON1 Photo RAW – faster file opening, faster module switching, faster adjustments, and faster file saving.

Q&A with Dan: ON1 Photo RAW & Lightroom®

I’m amazed after all these years there is so much diversity in workflows. All the variable ways people download, organize and edit means if you talk to another photographer about their workflow, chances are it is different than yours. It’s not just in the software or equipment we use. Some of us organize by date, others by client or subject. Some shoot RAW, some JPG, some both. Some of us rename, others don’t.

In-Sync with ON1 Photo RAW

Most of us have more than one computer we work on our photos with. I have an iMac I use at home for my main editing. It has a beautifully huge display. It’s where my photos live.
I also have a laptop I use when traveling, or when I want to sit on the couch. There are lots of ways to get your photos on both computers. I use Dropbox but there are lots of other great and inexpensive cloud syncing solutions (Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, etc). Most of this storage is darn-near free. If you have an Office 365 account they give you 1TB of OneDrive for free. Same thing if you have Amazon Prime, you get unlimited free Amazon Cloud Drive storage. Cloud storage is great. It gives you an online backup you can access anywhere and automatically manages keeping your photos in sync across multiple devices.

Best Practices for Jumping to ON1 from Lightroom

I always see questions about the various ways to get over to ON1 from within Lightroom. There’s the Photo > Edit In menu and there’s the File > Plug-In Extras menu. They each work just a little different so I figured I’d do a quick video on the best practices to use. Enjoy!

ON1 Photo RAW — Non-destructive Editing

See the new non-destructive workflow inside of ON1 Photo RAW. One of the cool things about non-destructive editing is that the original photo (any file type Photo RAW can read – raw, jpeg, tiff, psd, etc.) is never modified. All the edits you do are stored as instructions. Again, no matter the file type. This makes opening and saving your photos fast.

ON1 Photo RAW — A New Way to Work with Presets

If you’ve used ON1 Effects (or even Lightroom®) you understand the value of presets. Presets are used all the time whether you make some for yourself or import presets from others. Presets allow you to “wrap-up” your settings so you can use them again on other photos. Today presets are created at the module level, such as presets for Effects, or Enhance or Resize. You can view and apply these presets in the modules that created them or batch process with them.

ON1 Photo RAW — Speed Preview

Matt Kloskowski shows a recent prototype for ON1 Photo RAW. Matt works on a 36 megapixel raw file and shows the speed of a few filters including; lens blurs, lens correction, and Dynamic Contrast. If you used ON1 Effects before, you can see new changes in how effects are adjusted lower in the stack without turning filters (higher in the stack) on or off.
