Wow, I expected to see lots of useful, but only incremental improvements.
As, I thought that what with 360 and Portrait Ai, there would not be any room left in the ‘development budget’ for other completely new things. But, I see that I was wrong on that score.
So, thank you to all at ON1 for exceeding my expectations. PR 2021 looks like a serious advance. On what has already grown into a stable and flexible photo editor.
However, as someone who loves using PR 2020s cloning tools, I reacted with great sadness to the absence of the Perfect Eraser symbol in the video. (Hopefully I have just jumped to a wrong conclusion, and the Perfect Brush will be included in the final version of PR 2021). But, if not…
The new cloning tool looks very similar to the ‘dust spot tool’ in Lightroom. Which, don’t get me wrong, would be another great addition to PRs pallet of cloning tools. But, it is not going to replace the Perfect Eraser.
Yes, I know that a few individuals have been campaigning against the Perfect Eraser, but if it is properly applied, then the tool can give very good results. As confirmed by Matt K’s recent video, where even he seemed to be surprised by just how well it worked.
Question – Have I got it wrong and Perfect Eraser will ship with PR 2021? (Please say yes).
And
Question – If PE is being retired. If I clone a raw file in PR 2020.5.1 and use the PE tool. When I re-open the partly edited raw file in PR 2021, will it still recognise the cloning that was done in the earlier version of Photo Raw ?
Best wishes to all at ON1, and based on your video, I am already looking forward to using PR 2021.

Hey David we’re excited for you to start using the new features! We are not taking away the Perfect Brush, that will be included in 2021 as well 🙂

It looks like it is still there. Check out the 17:00 minute mark and pause the playback. You can still see the tool at the top of the screen in the Tool Options panel.

Thank you Dylan and Brian.
My mistake, there was just so much in that video. ? (There seems to be something in PR 2021 for almost everyone). But, I am very relieved to hear that I got it wrong.
Having four cloning tools, rather than just the previous three, is a significant improvement.
Thank you ON1 and I am looking forward to exploring all of the new capabilities.
Best wishes David Price

Impressive. I would have liked to see the colour changer being demonstrated as it’s pretty weak using the “local” filter currently. The new patch tool and gradient colour tool will come in useful too for me. I am glad ON1 have kept developing PR in this way. There are no improvements in noise reduction, but I’m resigned to using Topaz for that.
