Thanks Dylan, very interesting.
Even though I have used most of these effects to some extent, I’m still happy to learn more ways of using them.

Nice video. Especially like the blending options but would like to see a palette of colors beyond the RGB selection – ala HSL category that could be used with the new curve addition. This could enhance ON1 Photo Raw in its ability to enhance color management. ON1 Photo Raw has mastered tone management but lags a bit in its ability to handle color in the same way…..just an opinion.

Dylan, These enhancements and your tips seem great. One of my favorite filters is Dynamic Contrast. Given what you showed about adding contrast with the Curves filter, how does this complement or reduce the utility of Dynamic Contrast? Thanks.

Thanks for watching Peter!
Dynamic Contrast is targeting smaller areas of contrast – think texture – where as curves is more for global or general contrast within the image.

In the section on Color Toning remember that that the opposite of RGBW is CMYK. Removing red adds cyan, and so on. This is a handy way to visualize it:
RGBW
CMYK

Ciao. Grazie. Ciao

I thought that the blend mode opposite to “Luminosity” was “Color” ?
On June 16, 2023 at 5:26 pm Dylan Kotecki replied:
The color blend mode will leave the hue of the blend layer (in this case the Effects or Filters) but won’t incorporate the saturation. Play around with it to see the difference – color isn’t as strong when it comes to the preservation of color in the image where as saturation maintains all/most color that is created.

Dylan

Thank you Dylan,
Excellent demonstration of curves filters. Is there a reason you do not set the black and white point first or am I missing something?
On June 16, 2023 at 5:28 pm Dylan Kotecki replied:
Thanks for watching Terry! No reason for not – just didn’t want to add too many instructions on top of one another – that’s a great idea tho and the curve filter is excellent for it.

Thanks Dylan. Appreciate the simple, straight forward explanations and real world application of the curve filter. I was not using it to its full potential but will be from now on.

Can you use the tone curve to give the whole image a yellow cast ? or is that better using the other effects ? or are you just able to play with the RGB channels.
On June 16, 2023 at 5:30 pm Dylan Kotecki replied:
I would probably use the Photo Filter for giving the image a yellow color cast as it would be easier to control the cast and finding yellow would be much faster than going through and removing certain channels to include it.
