Auto-align layers – focus stacking

My hope is to do all my future processing with On1 raw and Layers. One feature I miss is the ability to auto align layers. To do any focus stacking I currently have to use Photoshop or some other specialized software in order to align the layers properly before starting the blending job.

Yes this would be a useful feature.

If autoalign is not possible, thenbeing able to more precisely move layers, i.e. by one pixel at a time on the cursor keys (which we can already do) as well as being able to use other keys to rotate by tiny amounts too., (which we can not currently do).

Definitely agree – would be nice to be able to use the move tool to rotate images by smaller amounts (using handles).

Focus Stacking, like HDR, may not be something that I use all the time, but also like HDR, when I need it, it is ESSENTIAL to what I am working on. Particularly when I am doing Macro work, there is NO substitute.
If nothing else, what about an ability to gather the Focus Stacking Group of images, and export them to Helicon Focus or Zerene Stacker (just a couple of examples, I use Helicon Focus) for assembly and processing, and then BACK to ON1 for final processing?

I’m a current Lightroom user and am eyeing photoshop because of their photo stacking. I’m not a fan of the slowness in LR and want to get all in one software. If On1 has photo stacking, I will have no other reason to stay with Adobe and would buy and support on1. Please please add this asap for all of the people who would love to have this functionality for macro, landscape, astrophotography. Thank you

I didn’t get a chance to vote on this but my vote would be 5 stars. My favorite genre is Macro and I use Olympus EM1-MKii which has built in focus stacking but only for 8 layers. It has the ability to take up to 999 layers at a increment of 1-10 for each layer and it would require other software to do the auto-focus stacking with the selected layers. I really only want to use ON1 Plus 2018 for all my photo editing and this would be a great enhancement.

I really struggle today with taking hand held images at different focal lengths, and combining them to a pleasing result. I can’t hold still enough to use just ‘focus stacking’ as ON1 2019.6 handles. It produces a poor result that barely resembles either of the two images I’m trying to ‘stack’. I have to manually align the layers, and then manually do my best with masking of a layer on top of another. It takes a lot of time. I really want ON1 to be able to better align the images either automatically, or to have it prepare a 1st pass and give me a chance to nudge the images a bit before combining / blending them. When I do this manually I set the upper layer to mode Difference, and try to see the most black possible, and then set that layer back to Normal, then mask. Of course the has to be enough similarly in focus between the two images to achieve some alignment. Just two images might not have a clear boundary, but I think ON1 should be able to handle iterations of trying to find the best alignment.
