Photo Challenge

FlayLay Photo Contest

Are you guys familiar with the term “FlayLay”? Or some people call it “LayDown”. It is a simple concept of placing like items or a theme together and photographing them from above.
FlatLay was our in house photo competition for December. With the weather not always the greatest this time of year we thought an indoor challenge would be the best.

City & Street in 24-frames Reverse Challenge

We asked you in the Plus community to choose a reverse photo challenge mission for Blake and I this month and we were blown away by how many great suggestions you came back with. Again and again we heard a couple of themes pop up. Lots of you wanted to see us work with a limited number of frames. Still another group wanted us to focus on street or city photography. Blake and I got together and decided to combine these two great ideas into the City & Street in 24 Frames Reverse Photo Challenge.

Storytelling Photo Challenge (Cash Prizes)

We have such a cool challenge for you this month. We’re looking for your best image that tells a story. It can be a street-scene, wildlife photograph, portrait, macro, still life, sports-action, landscape, or any other genre you can think of. You can process the heck out of it, or stay true to life. We’re fortunate to have one of my favorite visual storytellers Colby Brown guest coaching this month. Colby will help me select the winning images as well as some runners up to showcase in a Storytelling Challenge video we make together at the end of the month. Below are the rules, how to enter and some tips on visual storytelling from both Colby and me. Submission rules are below.

Part I: Scouting for the Backyard Reverse Photo Challenge

Hi all! I’ve put together a couple of videos for my Backyard Photo Challenge. This was the one where the ON1 Plus Community challenged Hudson and I to go out in our own backyards and look at it in a different way. Watch me scout for a good photo in my backyard!

Backyard Reverse Photo Challenge

OK, this was so tricky of you guys. Ask me to create an image in my backyard during an Oregon winter, and a really wet and snowy Oregon winter at that? Everything is soggy, dead, dirty and gross looking. If I try and do a spring cleaning and landscaping for this challenge, then more February and March storms will just ruin my hard work.

Reverse Photo Challenge Survey Results

Thanks to everyone who voted on the reverse photo challenge survey to pick a mission for Matt and I. The results of the survey are in. It was a close vote, but you chose to send Matt and I on a Backyard Challenge. We’ll each get to work finding something walking distance out our doors to capture in a new way and put together videos about the process. Stay tuned…
