Left Coast Lifter
This is a blue-hour shot taken in June of 2016 during the construction of the Mario Cuomo Bridge which replaced the Tappan Zee Bridge crossing the Hudson River from Tarrytown, NY. The barge crane in the foreground is the “Left Coast Lifter” , at the time the largest of its kind in the world, that was brought to the site from California through the Panama Canal. At the time, I shot this purely for esthetics. In 2019 I heard about an engineering journal that was doing an issue dedicated to bridge construction. This became the cover of their summer 2019 issue.
