More flexible import folder naming

When importing it is currently possible to automatically organize pictures into a folder structure by day or by month. However, the folder naming is fixed as YYYY/MM/DD or YYYY/MM. If your folder naming differs it will ignore them and create the YYYY/MM/DD folders in addition. Automatic folder names should be more flexible, similar to file naming, with the option to combine date fields and to add text.

We need the same folder and file naming/renaming capabilities as Lr has in their Library using “tokens”. Without the same tokens customers may have to change the workflow and folder and file naming conventions they have used for years at Lr. Competitors such as C1P, and PhotoMechanic provide a robust list of tokens/variables that can be used for folder and file naming/renaming.

This can be a serious show stopper for a pro or others with a large and specifically structured library.

I also wish to have the ability to customize the import to match my existing photo folder structure – yes, like LR and C1P.

I use something like: MyPictures/Image Imports/YYYY/YYYY-MM/YYYY-MM-DD. After importing with ON1, I have to manually restructure and move imports to avoid having a messed up and confusing folder structure.

The (2019) current digital asset management limitations are disappointing, especially considering ON1’s ‘leading edge’ approach to editing.

How ON1 imports files might just be the deal breaker. I have the file structure that I need for the clients and there is no way to customize the folder tree or naming structure it uses. I simply want to create an individual folder with YYYY ‘Mon’ DD in each client folder, in a folder for the year.

Also, it needs to recognize duplicate files! I recently imported a 128 gig card that was the backup card from my camera. I’m guessing half the files were duplicates. Well, I will now spend the next several days trying to find and delete the duplicate files……….

All the editing features in the world are not worth anything if the basic cataloging program can’t import files the way a pro user needs and identify possible duplicates…..

+1 what Michael Anderson wrote. Folder creation is unuseable like this. Separating dates by slashes – who comes up with that as it’s not even ISO standard?

There is some room for improvement as you can see from the many posts with similar experience.

Please add the ability to use separators such as dashes (YYY-MM-DD) or any other common character. Please also see www.on1.com/produ…in-import/
