ON1 Short Clip — Photo 10.5 vs. Photo RAW

Let’s take a look at a comparison of the processing speed between ON1 Photo 10.5 and the new ON1 Photo RAW – with its new fast module switching and nondestructive workflow.  You’ll notice how in ON1 Photo RAW it only took us about 43 seconds – in ON Photo 10.5 it takes twice as long. Everything is faster in ON1 Photo RAW – faster file opening, faster module switching, faster adjustments, and faster file saving.

Matt, first it is great to see that you’re back – I’ve missed your insights and series, “your photo, our look.” Indeed, this speed demonstration is impressive and does the new On1 Photo Raw take advantage of multi-threading in a way 10.5 doesn’t? Also, to what extent does cache and VM come into play as well as i/o from drives? Thanks.

Does this increased speed work if using On1 10.5 as plug-ins in Photoshop? Or, is the increase speed noticed only when using as a stand alone program?

You will definitely notice the increased speed when using Photo RAW as a plug-in also.

Great stuff Matt. I have two questions about this program which has been and will be my go to.
Where is it already? I am smiling but waiting 🙂
Is is working okay with Sierra System on the Macs?
    Thanks,
    Elliot

Hey Elliot, It will be out right around mid-November. We are all very excited! It will also be fully compatible with Sierra.

I do have another question. The only cloud I am showing in my On1 10.5 is google. I also have Amazon Cloud. Will that be recognized as well?

Hey Elliot, I missed this somehow. I apologize. You should be able to save the Amazon folder as a watch folder in Browse to have this integration. We are looking to officially add Amazon as an option in a future release, but you can still use it with ON1 today.

I am curious if the amount of memory Photo raw uses is improved significantly over that of ON1 Photo 10.5. I have regularly experienced memory growth from 40 MB raw file for a 36 Mpixel sensor camera to 1GB or more after Photo 10.5 is applied
    Thanks.

Will Apple Photo app extensions which worked beautifully in El Capitán again work in Sierra?

Hi – will Photo RAW take advantage of GPU-based processing, e.g. using the fancy graphics cards in the Mac Pro (2013 model)? I know that LR and PS do, and Photo 10.5 does not – and, boy, does it show (even on a six-core Xeon with 64Gb ram it’s sluggish!)

Ah, I see that it claims to use the GPU, great. Which leads me to my final question: will the shipped Photo RAW support the new Fuji X-T2, as I am hoping to get one between now and the Photo RAW ship date….. your compatibility list doesn’t include it (or the X-Pro2) but I am sure I won’t be the only person looking for this capability! Thanks.

Yes, it will definitely take advantage of the GPU processing.

If you upgrade from On1 10.5 to Photo Raw, will all of the presets in 10.5 come over automatically to Photo Raw?
