Do not clear filtering criteria when navigating to a different folder

Current Behavior

  1. Go to Browse View.
  2. Enable filtering and enter some criteria. For example, only show “liked” photos.
  3. Navigate to a different folder.
  4. Poof! The filtering criteria you just entered is now cleared. Filtering remains enabled, but the criteria is removed.

Proposed Behavior

  1. Go to Browse View.
  2. Enable filtering and enter some criteria. For example, only show “liked” photos.
  3. Navigate to a different folder.
  4. The filters selected in step 2 remain intact and are applied to the currently selected folder. To show all photos, simply toggle the filter off.
    1. If some subset of users prefer the current behavior, make the new behavior optional.

Background

I find it super annoying that my filtering criteria is cleared every time I navigate to a different folder. If I wanted to disable the filter, I could simply toggle it off. I see no valid reason for the current behavior, although ON1 Support has confirmed that this is by design and not a bug. Re-entering the criteria might not be so painful when filtering by a label or “likes”, but is very inconvenient when using advanced filters such as camera type where you have to repeatedly scroll through a list of dozens of cameras.

Here is something I submitted to tech support… Along the same lines

    Enhancement Request: Filters
Operation today requires 3-levels of selection every time I would like to sort/filter images in the browse window.

The process to find TIFF files
Select Filter radio button > Advanced > File Type > TIFF
    Turn Off/Turn On FiIlters
TIFF search is reset… need to go through three step process again…

here are many points of discussion where this is less optimum… but the root may be the difference in user modes. I would guess there are some at On1 that would never search by file type, thus the feature is buried.

There are some users who do this every editing session, thus it seems quite fidgety in day to day operation.
Without getting into UX design, I can only suggest separating Advanced features from the “Filters” pane may be worth considering. (Maybe a filters for file attributes… and a filter for image attributes..
each one-layer deep, with sticky settings between usage steps..
