Backyard Reverse Photo Challenge

OK, this was so tricky of you guys. Ask me to create an image in my backyard during an Oregon winter, and a really wet and snowy Oregon winter at that? Everything is soggy, dead, dirty and gross looking. If I try and do a spring cleaning and landscaping for this challenge, then more February and March storms will just ruin my hard work.

Post Your Questions for the Live Q&A Tomorrow!

Don’t forget that tomorrow is my live Q&A here at ON1 Plus. To help me prepare better, I’d love it if you could post some of your questions here. That way, I can make sure I get to them and with some good examples. And while my main topic has been about layers, and I’d love to keep the overall discussion around it, I’ll also take any workflow or other questions you have if we have some extra time at the end. Really looking forward to hanging out with you guys tomorrow… See you then!

One Year On (Pike turns 1)

Those of you who were part of our photo community this time last year might remember my little man Pike Henry’s arrival. It’s hard to believe that the Earth has  gone all the way round the Sun since then, but Pike turned one today. Crazy. Between the growth of the Plus community and becoming a father, this past year has been so incredible and I couldn’t be more thankful. Many of you Plus members have reached out since Pike was born with advice, compliments and well wishes. Those of you who reminded me to enjoy every-second-because-the-time-flies could not have been more right. He’s the absolute best thing ever and he’s growing too fast.
Here’s a few pics from the last year and a bit more news: Pike’s going to have a little sister in June. 🙂

Tech Talk – Fujifilm X-Trans

Some of you out there shoot with Fujifilm® X series cameras that use the X-Trans® CMOS sensor. These sensors use a unique color filter pattern compared the the traditional Bayer pattern that most cameras use. Fujifilm claims this filter layout reduces moire patterns naturally so you don’t need an anti-aliasing filter which can soften details in your photos. They also claim  this layout provides for better color reproduction with less color noise. Here is what that looks like.

A Layered Workflow

Continuing on with the Layers theme this month, we’re going to dive in to some workflows for using multiple layers. The main questions that come up are what order do we do things.
