Wow, Colby and I had a tough job choosing the winners for this month’s Storytelling Photo Challenge. What a great bunch of submissions. Seriously! In this video Colby and I choose the cash prize winners. Huge congratulations to James and Kathy. We also highlight some images from the gallery that we agreed deserved attention and/or provided teachable moments to discuss. If you haven’t checked out this gallery, then you really should.

We have such a cool challenge for you this month. We’re looking for your best image that tells a story. It can be a street-scene, wildlife photograph, portrait, macro, still life, sports-action, landscape, or any other genre you can think of. You can process the heck out of it, or stay true to life. What we are looking for are compelling images that have a story to tell. First place will receive $300 in cash while second and third will each receive $100.
We’re fortunate to have one of my favorite visual storytellers Colby Brown guest coaching this month. Colby will help me select the winning images as well as some runners up to showcase in a Storytelling Challenge video we make together at the end of the month. Below are the rules, how to enter and some tips on visual storytelling from both Colby and me. Submission rules are below.

This August 21st a really special solar Eclipse is coming to the United States. It is a total eclipse crossing from Oregon to South Carolina. This is a huge event and a great opportunity for us as photographers to capture something really unique and spectacular. The last time a total eclipse was visible from the U.S. outside of Alaska or Hawaii was way back in 1979 here over the Pacific Northwest. Of course February clouds obscured it.

Lets see some water reflection images for this challenge. My friends at Hoya have been kind enough to sponsor this challenge by providing HD3 Circular Polarizers to the first and second place winners. First place will also receive $200 in cash. We’re fortunate to have the water photography master Scott Davenport guest coaching this month and he’ll help me select the winning images as well as some runners up to showcase in a Reflection Challenge video we produce at the end of the month. Hey everyone. Matt and I wanted to share this short video where we recap some highlights as well as some teachable moments from February’s Love themed critiques. Great job by everyone who submitted. If you have been shy about submitting a critique image, I hope you’ll toss an image in the ring this month. Our Course Library and these monthly critiques form what I consider the backbone of our Plus community learning experience and I really hope everyone will take advantage of all that both have to offer.
First off, a HUGE shoutout to all of you Plus Community folks who submitted images for the Your Photo Our Look series.You really outdid yourselves providing us with a spectacular and diverse set of RAW images to choose from. Thank you. I chose to do this two-part episode exclusively in Photo RAW 2017. I’ve heard a desire in the Plus Discussion Forums for more Photo RAW specific content, so I used this opportunity to provide it. (more…)
